Dr. Michael Blumenkrantz was educated at Columbia College and Albert Einstein College of Medicine. He spent three years in post-graduate training at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania and trained in London at the National Heart Hospital and the Royal Postgraduate Hammersmith. Dr. Blumenkrantz continued his training in Nephrology at Wadsworth VAH and UCLA, worked at Pritikin Center, and he remained in academic medicine for ten years where he did extensive clinical research and achieved the rank of Associate Professor of Medicine (Step 3 in Residence) at UCLA School of Medicine.
Dr. Blumenkrantz became nationally and internationally known for his work in kidney disease, dialysis, and clinical nutrition. He published over 80 publications including research articles, review papers, and book chapters (see bibliography). He has lectured (as well as served on various panels) at enumerable local, national, and international conferences and symposiums. He has been honored to have been invited as a visiting professor at several international institutions (see CV). Dr. Blumenkrantz has been a reviewer on the editorial board of numerous publications. He was elected as a Fellow of the American College of Physicians and a Fellow of the American College of Clinical Nutrition. He is also a certified nutrition support physician.
Dr. "B" has been in clinical practice for over 40 years where he emphasizes preventative medicine and nutrition with a warm, empathetic, and engaging personality. He enjoys taking care of and educating patients from a broad range of geographic, socio-economic, and educational backgrounds. Dr. Blumenkrantz has been praised for his competence and his abilities and has been honored frequently as a "doctor's doctor." He is compassionate and caring and treats the "whole" person not the disease. Dr. "B" has spent decades spending whatever time necessary with patients, either in the office or with telephone discussions, to teach them so that they understand their often complex medical problems and treatment options, striving to achieve good outcomes with acceptable risks.
Dr. Blumenkrantz has been working with lawyers doing medical/legal evaluations for over 30 years (over 700 cases). His areas of expertise include internal medicine, metabolic disorders, diabetes, and diabetic kidney disease, critical care, geriatric-nursing home, clinical nutrition, and TPN, as well as kidney disease, hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis, and hypertension. He has testified in approximately 170 depositions and 40 trials. Dr. Blumenkrantz is very articulate and has developed a remarkable ability to serve as a very effective communicator and educator either explaining medical concepts to a patient, a lawyer, a jury, or in the form of a written report.
