Introduction

Dr. Ernest A. Kendrick, a Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association, is a child and adolescent psychiatrist in private practice in Houston, Texas. Dr. Kendrick is Board Certified in Psychiatry, Child Psychiatry, and Forensic Psychiatry. He is qualified in court as an expert witness in Psychiatry and Child Psychiatry.

He completed his undergraduate degree in Mathematics at Boston University, Boston, MA, his medical degree at Meharry Medical College, Nashville, TN, his general psychiatry residency at Baylor College of Medicine, Houston, TX, and his child and adolescent fellowship at Baylor College of Medicine, Houston, TX. He has served as Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at Baylor College of Medicine and as Medical Director at five facilities: HCA Belle Park Hospital (a private psychiatric hospital); Supreme Work Ready (a multidisciplinary outpatient pain management program); Continuum (a multidisciplinary intensive outpatient treatment program for children and adolescents); West Oaks Hospital (Adolescent Unit); and Sugar Land Psychiatry Plus (a multidisciplinary intensive outpatient treatment program). He has also served as Vice President for Quest Healthcare, P.A., a multidisciplinary outpatient behavioral and pain management program.

Dr. Kendrick is actively involved in psychiatry at the local, state, and national level. He is a past Representative to the Board of Trustees of the American Psychiatric Association, an organization that represents the majority of the 30,000+ psychiatrists throughout the country, past Secretary of the Black Psychiatrists of America, as well as a past Chairman of the Committee of Black Psychiatrists of the American Psychiatric Association. He has served as a member of the Committee on Relationships with Allied Disciplines of the Texas Society of Psychiatric Physicians, and both the Public Affairs Committee and the Children’s Advocacy Committee of the Houston Psychiatric Society. He is the recipient of the Distinguished Service Award from Houston Achievement Place, the Laughlin Award from the National Psychiatric Endowment Fund, and the Rafael D. Hernandez award for Excellence in Psychiatry from Meharry Medical College. He currently serves as a member of the Board of Trustees, Texana MHMR Center (a community-based mental health and mental retardation Center).
