After completing his Bachelor’s degree in Astrophysics & Astronomy from UC Berkeley, Josh began his solar career at Akeena Solar, one of the leading turnkey residential and commercial solar contractors of its era. Shortly after joining Akeena, Josh took on supervisory responsibilities within the company’s operations departments, helping open remote offices nationwide and scale staffing and infrastructure as the company grew. Josh managed design, engineering, and project management teams supporting more than 20 MW of residential and small commercial PV systems over approximately three years.
In 2009, Josh founded SepiSolar, a national solar PV, energy storage, and microgrid design, engineering, and consulting company based in California. He leads a team of designers, engineers, project managers, and technical consultants supporting projects and products from development and design through construction, commissioning, troubleshooting, and operation.
Josh’s energy storage career began as a co-founder of Green Charge Networks, which received a $10 million U.S. Department of Energy grant supporting 8+ microgrid and utility-interactive solar, energy storage, and electric vehicle projects. Green Charge Networks was later acquired by ENGIE. Josh continued developing grid-connected energy storage and microgrid projects through NRG’s Station A R&D team and Nextracker’s (later Nextpower) integrated energy storage program, with roles spanning design, engineering, business, policy, project development, product development, hardware, and software.
Josh has continuously maintained the North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners (NABCEP) PV Installation Professional (PVIP) credential, certification no. 092907-34, since 2007 and was a NABCEP-accredited trainer from 2018 through 2021. He has also taught solar PV design and project management at UC Berkeley Extension and launched SepiAcademy, a NABCEP-accredited training platform.
