Introduction

KyleeAnn Stevens, MD, board certified in psychiatry and forensic psychiatry, is a skilled forensic psychiatrist with extensive experience as an expert witness and as a health system administrator. She has served as an expert witness in state and federal courts in matters of competency to stand trial, criminal responsibility, readiness for conditional release and discharge, among others. In her current role as the chief medical officer for a behavioral health system, she has experience in the provision and oversight of clinical care in hospitals (forensic and civil), treatment programs, and outpatient services, as well as supervision of physicians and other clinicians in general and forensic practice. She has experience in inpatient standards of care, policy and procedure development, regulatory compliance, best practices in clinical care, and supervision of professionals. This makes her an ideal consulting and testifying expert for cases on inpatient standards of care and malpractice claims.

Dr. Stevens is an Adjunct Professor at the University of Minnesota and is a Distinguished Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association. She holds a black belt in Lean Six Sigma performance improvement.

Previously, Dr. Stevens worked as an attending psychiatrist at St. Elizabeths Hospital in Washington DC. where she helped spearhead creation of a forensic consultation service to meet hospital needs for independent competency and criminal responsibility evaluations as well as report writing and testimony. She became the Director of Forensic Services at St. Elizabeths, where she was responsible for oversight of all forensic reports and testimony for courts in DC and federal courts for pre-and post-trial matters such as readiness for conditional discharge.

Dr. Stevens completed her medical training at the University of North Dakota School of Medicine and Health Sciences, and her residency and fellowship training in forensic psychiatry at Georgetown University.
