Introduction

Monica Argumedo, MD, is board certified in psychiatry and forensic psychiatry. She completed medical school at the University of Illinois College of Medicine and residency training at Georgetown University Medical Center in Washington, DC, serving as a Chief Resident during her fourth year. After residency, Dr. Argumedo completed a forensic psychiatry fellowship at the Medical College of Wisconsin.

A Chicago native, after completing the forensic psychiatry fellowship, she returned to Chicago and worked as a forensic psychiatrist for the Cook County Criminal Courts. While working for Cook County Criminal Courts, under the office of the Chief Judge, she rendered opinions and provided testimony in matters such as criminal responsibility and competency to stand trial.

Dr. Argumedo maintained her clinical skills over the years, primarily by working in consultation/liaison psychiatry. She served for years as the director of the consultation/liaison psychiatry service at Alexian Brothers Medical Center and St. Alexius Medical Center and was primarily responsible for the consultation/liaison psychiatry service at Rush Oak Park Hospital for several years. Her private clinical practice focuses on treating first responders and healthcare workers.

Dr. Argumedo routinely conducts forensic assessments in civil and criminal matters, providing opinions by written report and testimony. She also works with the State of Illinois, Forensic Work Group, which is dedicated to improving the forensic treatment system in Illinois.

A: When I worked at the Cook County Criminal Courts forensic psychiatry clinic, I completed approximately 500 evaluations mainly for fitness to stand trial and criminal responsibility. With my private expert witness practice, I have been retained more than 100 times as an expert witness in various civil and criminal matters, and I have also been involved in 30 Independent Medical Evaluations.

A: I am an expert in forensic psychiatry. I have been involved in psychiatric malpractice cases, psychological damages cases, and have done quite a few cases involving trauma and PTSD.
