Editor of perhaps the most read Addiction Medicine textbook worldwide, and for 4 editions over a 20-year span. Previously served 10 years as co-founding Co-Editor of a leading addiction medicine journal. Roughly 90 scholarly medical publications. Awards for clinical practice, teaching, research, military service. Opinions sought by Dateline NBC News, Pravda, U.S. News & World Report, etc.

20 years of service as a United States Air Force Officer (retired); earned the Meritorious Service Medal twice, deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. Led the Tri-Service Addiction Recovery Center – the worldwide tertiary referral center for the diagnosis and treatment of addiction-related disorders within the Department of Defense (DoD). Hand-picked by the DoD as the Lead Editor/Author for a first-ever VA-DoD clinical practice guideline for the management of substance use disorders.

Previously deemed by the courts as an expert witness for the following issues: addiction medicine, psychiatry, drug testing, gambling addiction, cough medicine addiction, and for a variety of addictive drugs and related issues. Previously retained as an expert witness throughout the USA and in Europe. Both sides of the bar, civil & criminal, deposition & testimony experience.
